A related painting by Gardiner, entitled Towards Wiltshire, is in
the collection of the Swindon Art Gallery. A similar work can be seen
hanging over the fireplace in Gardiner’s painting of his wife Evelyn at
their family home in Stroud (cat. 32). In 1947 Gardiner produced a
series of eleven illustrations for The Cotswolds by Kenneth Green
(Garland Press, Bristol), the front cover of which shows a similar
composition.
